July NY Tech Meetup 2015 Recap
Last Tuesday the Evol8tion team had a jam-packed day culminating with the New York Tech Meetup. At the meetup, our team made an effort to meet with entrepreneurs and learn about the coolest new technology in the Greater New York area. There were eight remarkable demos presented, ranging from an interactive platform mapping LGBTQ nightlife since 1859 (Outgoing NYC) to a new equity crowdfunding platform (Quire).
Here are our favorites from the night!
No one likes having to wait for anything, especially for routine doctors’ appointments. Now those days are over, thanks to Maven!
Maven is an app that allows women to speak face-to-face with healthcare professionals through video, in the comfort of their own homes. The starting price for appointments is cheaper than your average co-pay and the medical experts can write you prescriptions, just like your old doctor. Maven has a three step process: first choose what kind of care you need, next book a video appointment, and finally have your appointment and get your follow up notes. Maven has been featured on Fast Company andFortune. So check them out, and don’t forget to follow them here.
Another well-received demo was Paygoal, an interactive, virtual financial advisor. This mobile app allows you to keep up with your income, set money aside to reach specific goals, and exchange messages with a personal mobile assistant that provides you with customized guidance. Paygoal has recently been named the winner of CFSI’s accelerator for innovations which helps Americans more efficiently manage their finances. For more on Paygoal follow them here.
The audience’s top demo of the night came from Smart Vision labs. Eye exams are typically provided by optometrists- at their offices. Smart Vision is disrupting the industry in a big way! They have created a device that, when paired with your smartphone, can perform eye exams anywhere you are. Not only can the exams be performed from anywhere, but they can be performed by almost anyone, with only a few minutes of training. After the exam, the app can give you information that can be downloaded for a prescription for new glasses. Smart Vision Labs can has been featured by TechCrunch and Forbes. You can follow them here.
Finally, shoutout to our friends at JustWorks for sponsoring the event and handing out promotional swag before the meetup!
