Appsessed: Skurt App
REVOLUTIONISING CAR RENTALS IN THE ON-DEMAND ECONOMY
Picture the scene: You arrive at the airport exhausted. A man at security decided to pocket his entire coin collection, causing a TSA frenzy. You were placed in the middle row with inconsiderate neighbours hogging the armrests (and also unnecessary thigh-to-thigh contact). The seven year old behind you threw a fit, trying to beat the inconsolable infant a couple of rows in front. You had an inkling feeling that you’d forgotten something, and low and behold, it was your headphones. Perfect. Can’t sink into the smooth stylings of Sting to transport you to your happy place. The last thing you want to do is to wait in an agonising car rental line, only to walk away with a model you didn’t need but was convinced into by a smug sales associate.
Skurt is here to change that.
A Skurt agent meets you at the arrivals hall and walks you to your preordered car. The entire rental process is conveniently completed in-app. You scan-in your driver's licence to begin the process, and select the type of vehicle you'd like to rent. The app is perfect for business professionals, young families, and just young people in general. A Skurt renter must be 21+ with a valid drivers licence, no restrictions (unlike other rental companies that have age restrictions and other red tape for younger drivers).
If you're late to the airport, you can pick up a Skurt agent on the way and they will take care of the car once you arrive at the departure hall.
Consumers, especially millennials, are less and less willing to put up with inefficient customer service. Companies like Uber, Seamless, and Amazon are making life easier with a click of a button. With the plethora of other options out there, the on-demand economy is rapidly turning many previously unchallenged business models (and the monopolies who instilled them) on its head.
However, since it is a new frontier, there are cons associated with the sudden influx and automation of the service industry (which you can read about here). Even so, the future looks bright.
Founded October of last year, Skurt is still in the early stages. They are currently only available in Los Angeles. Feel free to download the app if you find yourself flying to the City of Angels in the foreseeable future.
